How To Access Your Icotera Router Settings?
Accessing the Icotera router settings is pretty simple and straightforward. If you have the correct admin login details and your device is connected everything should work flawlessly.
STEP 1 – Check Whether Your Device Is Connected To The Network
We have mentioned that you need to connect your device to the network. If you are using a smartphone you can connect to the Wi-Fi, but if your device has a LAN port, we recommend using a wired connection to the router. It is more stable and you won’t be logged out of the admin dashboard when you change the WiFi or admin router password.
STEP 2 – Open The Browser You Use The Most
To access your router settings, you will need to open a web browser on your device. You don’t have to worry if your internet connection isn’t working, you are visiting the router’s web-based interface from the browser. The only thing you should do is to update the browser. This will help you avoid conflicts with the router’s web-based interface.
STEP 3 – Type In The Icotera Router IP In The URL Bar
In the browser’s URL bar, type in the router IP. You can use the default IP if it hasn’t been changed or use a custom one. When you press Enter on the keyboard, you should be asked to enter a username and a password. If you don’t know the router’s IP use the ones we have recommended above or check the label under the router itself.
Additionally, if the router login page doesn’t show up it means that the router is using a different IP address or you have entered it incorrectly. You can retype the IP or find the IP on your own by following this guide.
STEP 4 – Type In The Admin Login Username And Password
When the login page appears, enter the default or custom admin username and password in the router login prompt.
You can type “admin” in both the username and password fields. If these login details don’t work, check the label under the router or if you are using custom admin username and password, use these instead.
Press the Login button and that’s it. You should see the Icotera router admin dashboard.
At this point you will see all the settings in the menu on the left. There should be no issues in finding the settings you need to change. However, if you have no experience, here is a little help on how to change the admin password and wireless login details. For additional configuration changes we recommend using the manual or ask someone more experienced to help you with it.
The following changes are recommended since they provide some basic security for your wireless network that will prevent unauthorized access from most individuals.
Let’s Change The Icotera Admin Password
The first thing you should do when you access the Icotera router settings is to change the administrator password. By doing this you will prevent anyone from accessing the router admin dashboard even if he or she is already connected to your network.
Since you are logged into the router settings page, check the menu on the left and look for the Administration menu. In its submenus click on UI Login Password.
In order to change the admin password, you have to fill in the adequate fields. Type in the old admin password first. Then in the New Password and Retype New Password fields enter the new admin password. Avoid copy/pasting the password because you might have made a typing error when you have typed it the first time.
Let’s Change The Icotera SSID And Password
And now let’s see why you have to change the network name (SSID) and the wireless password.
As for the network name it is normal that we want to make your wireless network more personal and recognizable. The truth is that if people don’t change the network name and leave the default ones, there would be real mess when you try to connect in a crowded neighborhood. You simply wouldn’t know which network name to connect to.
That’s why by changing the network name into something funny or more personal you won’t have any problems finding your network name when you try to connect. The other problem here is that the default network name can reveal the brand or model of the router you are using, making it too easy for someone to find the default IP address and the admin login username and password.
As for the wireless password, you have to make sure that your network is encrypted. You can achieve that from the router admin dashboard.
NOTE: Your router most probably supports 2.4 and 5GHz networks. Make sure to use a different network name on each. Adding 5G at the end of the network name is usually enough.
Leaving the wireless network unprotected will make it extremely vulnerable. Others will connect and abuse your bandwidth and you definitely want to prevent that from happening. Setting up a strong and unique wireless password is the way to do it.
So here is how to change the SSID and WiFi password on your Icotera router.
Find the Settings section in the left-hand menu. In the submenus you should see Wi-Fi 802.11/b/g/n and Wi-Fi 802.11ac.
The first one should be for the 2.4GHz network, and the second for the 5GHz network.
When you select Wi-Fi 802.11/b/g/n make sure that Enabled is checked.
In the SSID field you can enter the new network name.
As Encryption select WPA2-AES from the drop-down list.
In the Encryption key field enter the new wireless password.
NOTE: You will see the Enable WPS option here. If it is enabled we strongly recommend keeping it disabled. It is intended to let you connect WPS-enabled devices without the need to enter the wireless password. You just push the WPS button and the router will search for a device ready to be connected. It is better to keep this disabled.
Now click the Save button. Your new network name and wireless password will be saved and WPS disabled.
You should connect your wireless devices now to the new wireless network using the new password.
