Brief outline
If you want to learn the exact Hitron router login steps then this is the right article for you. Whether you want to simply change your wireless network name or protect your Wi-Fi network with a password, or you want to take care of the time your kids are spending online, knowing how to login to your Hitron router is the first thing to learn.
So, let’s start!
What do you need:
- Hitron Router
- A smartphone, tablet, PC or laptop
How do I access my Hitron router?
The Hitron router login steps are quite simple and straightforward so pay attention.
STEP 1: Connect to the network first
Connecting your device to the network is the first thing to do. The reason for this is that your router can be accessed only from a device which is part of the network. Therefore, use either the W-Fi connection or the network cable to connect your device. We strongly recommend using a wired connection because after you save some changes to the router settings you will be logged out.
STEP 2: Open your browser and type the Hitron router IP in the URL bar.
To access the router settings, we normally use a web browser. Any browser will do the job. So, type the default Hitron router IP address 192.168.0.1 in the address bar and hit the Enter button on the keyboard or tap Go on your smartphone.
STEP 3: Type the Hitron router username and password
After entering the default IP the Hitron router login window will appear where you have to type the default Hitron router username and password.
Depending on the ISP you have rented the router from, try the following username and password combinations:
USERNAME | PASSWORD |
---|---|
cusadmin | password |
admin | admin |
cusadmin | the “WiFi Key” you can find printed on a sticker on the router |
Cusadmin | password (or your easy connect Wi-Fi password) |
NOTE: In some cases, both the router username and password are printer on a label usually placed under or on the side of the router.
Type these login details in the appropriate fields and, if everything is correct, you will be redirected to the Web-based GUI control configuration and management panel i.e. the router settings page.
How to secure your Hitron router
When it comes to router security there are some steps you have to take in order to secure your personal home network.
You definitely don’t want anyone to gain access to your network without your approval. Simply changing the default router SSID and password represents a good security measure.
Let’s see what you have to do now.
1. Login to the router first following the steps given above.
2. After you login to the Hitron router, go to Wireless in the menu or first to Security and then Wireless. It can be found either in the top menu or in the left-hand menu. This depends on the Web GUI which is different depending on the ISP you use.
3. Now select the 2.4GHz and 5GHz network where you want to make the changes.
4. Now change the following:
- In the Network Name (SSID) field you can change the name of your wireless network.
- Set the Security mode to WPA-Personal
- Set WPA mode or Auth mode to WPA2-PSK
- Set Cipher type or Encrypt mode to TKIP/AES
- And finally, in the Pre-Shared Key or Pass Phrase field type your new wireless network password.
5. Click Save or Apply to save the changes.
In case you have some problems, you can either check the user’s manual that came with the router, check the manufacturer’s website or contact your ISP.
Final Words
As you can see, the it isn’t complicated to login to the Hitron router if you know all the login details. At the same time, securing the wireless network is just as easy as logging in. However, you won’t be able to do it without the router IP and the login details. This is why it’s recommended to take a note of the changes you make – just in case.
Hey, I’m David. I’ve been working as a wireless network engineer and a network administrator for 15 years. During my studies, I also worked as an ISP field technician – that’s when I met Jeremy.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in network engineering and a master’s degree in computer science and engineering. I’m also a Cisco-certified service provider.
In my professional career, I worked for router/modem manufacturers and internet providers. I like to think that I’m good at explaining network-related issues in simple terms. That’s exactly what I’m doing on this website – I’m making simple and easy-to-follow guides on how to install, set up, and troubleshoot your networking hardware. I also review new network equipment – modems, gateways, switches, routers, extenders, mesh systems, cables, etc.
My goal is to help regular users with their everyday network issues, educate them, and make them less scared of their equipment. In my articles, you can find tips on what to look for when buying new networking hardware, and how to adjust your network settings to get the most out of your wi-fi.
Since my work is closely related to computers, servers, and other network equipment, I like to spend most of my spare time outdoors. When I want to blow off some steam, I like to ride my bike. I also love hiking and swimming. When I need to calm down and clear my mind, my go-to activity is fishing.
