With the increasing use of wireless internet, the security of our WiFi networks has become a serious concern.
It is important to make the chances of unauthorized access as low as possible and this is definitely something we shouldn’t take too lightly. However, most people take this seriously when their network gets hacked and someone uses their bandwidth or blocks them off their own personal network. However, securing your wireless network doesn’t take much time and applying just a few changes in the router settings will make your network secure against most threats.
In order to make these changes you will need to login to your router. And if you are using a Prolink router user, then this article is just for you.
CONTENTS
What You Need:
- Prolink wireless router
- Default Prolink router login details
- Wired or Wireless network access
- Computer, smartphone or tablet
What Are The Prolink Default Login Details?
Most wireless routers and extenders today come with default login details (IP, username and password) that are predefined in the factory. These login details are used to access the router settings and it is good to know them because if you have to reset your router to factory defaults at one point you will need them.
If you don’t know them take a look on the side or the bottom of the router and you would see a label with these login details printed on it.
Default IP address: http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.123.254
Default username: admin
Default password: password or check what is printed on the sticker
How To Login To A Prolink Router?
If you have connected your device and you have the default login details, the following steps will be pretty simple.
STEP 1 – Connect Your Device
As we have mentioned before you need wired or wireless access to the network your Prolink router is in. So, unlock your device and connect to the WiFi using the wireless password or take the network cable and plug it into your computer if you are using it to login to the router. This step is essential and you won’t be able to continue with the Prolink router login steps if you don’t connect your device.
STEP 2 – Launch A Web Browser
Now launch a web browser on the device you are using to access the router settings. It isn’t important which one you will use, just make sure it is up to date.
STEP 3 – Enter The Prolink IP Address In The Address Bar
We have already said that the default Prolink router IP address is either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.123.254. Now you need to type the IP address in the web browser’s address bar and press the Enter button on your keyboard.
After that you will be asked to enter a username and a password. However, if that doesn’t happen check whether you are connected to the network, check whether you have typed the IP correctly or finally check whether 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.123.254 is the router’s default IP address.
NOTE: If you get a security warning message don’t worry about it. Just click on “Advanced” and then click on “Proceed to 192.168.1.1 (unsafe)”.
STEP 4 – Enter The Admin Username And Password
If you are asked to enter a username and a password, use the default ones found on the sticker on the router. If the login details are correct you will see the router admin dashboard. You will have no problems finding the required settings and changing them. However, we don’t recommend playing with the settings if you don’t know what you are doing. So, either take a backup of the current settings or write down every change you make.
We have mentioned that you need to take care of the network security at the first place so if you have logged into the router successfully please change the admin password, the default network name and the default wireless password.
Although this isn’t much, it is enough to keep your network safe from unauthorized access. If you want to learn more about wireless network security we are going to cover that in detail in another article.
How To Change The Prolink Admin Password?
Changing the admin password is important although most people just leave it as it is. However, if someone already has access to your network and wants to access your router settings for some reason then it would be pretty easy to find the default admin username and password. For that reason it is recommended to change it, but make sure to save both the default admin password and the new one for further use. In case you forget the custom admin password, you will have to factory-reset the router and you will be able to login with the default one.
Once you access the Prolink router settings, find Management in the left-hand menu. Now click on Password. Change the router admin name in the appropriate fields and click Save to confirm your changes.
How To Change The Prolink Wifi Name and Password?
The default WiFi settings need to be changed as well. Changing the default ones and setting up a strong and unique password is something you should do as soon as possible.
After you login to the Prolink router take a look at the menu on the left.
Click on Wireless, and then select Basic. This will open the Wireless Basic management page.
In the Name (SSID) field enter the new network name you want to use.
In the Pre-Shared Key field you need to enter your new wireless password.
Click on the Apply button and your changes will be saved.
Now you need to connect your wireless devices to the new network.
Final Words
Besides the ones we have described, there are other security changes you can make to additionally boost your network security. However, you can also set up a separate Guest network or set up the Parental controls, set up port forwarding, add or block devices from your network and much more. However, we recommend taking care of the changes you make. And in case you mess things up you can always reset your router to factory settings and start over. Just make sure you have the default login details written somewhere.

In my professional career, I worked for router/modem manufacturers and internet providers. I like to think that I’m good at explaining network-related issues in simple terms. That’s exactly what I’m doing on this website – I’m making simple and easy-to-follow guides on how to install, set up, and troubleshoot your networking hardware. I also review new network equipment – modems, gateways, switches, routers, extenders, mesh systems, cables, etc.
My goal is to help regular users with their everyday network issues, educate them, and make them less scared of their equipment. In my articles, you can find tips on what to look for when buying new networking hardware, and how to adjust your network settings to get the most out of your wi-fi.
Since my work is closely related to computers, servers, and other network equipment, I like to spend most of my spare time outdoors. When I want to blow off some steam, I like to ride my bike. I also love hiking and swimming. When I need to calm down and clear my mind, my go-to activity is fishing.
