If you have a Calix wireless router and you want to manage your wireless network or modify some of the router settings you need to know the Calix router login steps. Once you access the router settings you will have an option to modify many different settings, enable or disable them, create additional Guest networks or set up the Parental controls if necessary.
But first there are some things we have to get ready if we want to login to the router settings without any problems.
What You Need:
The following things are necessary if you want to login to your Calix router successfully.
- Calix wireless router
- A device like a PC, smartphone or a tablet
- Wired or wireless access to the network
- The Calix router admin login details
What Are The Default Calix Router Details?
The following are the Calix router admin login details that will let you access the router web-based interface. Please note that these are the default login details, so if you have changed these earlier or you are renting your Calix router from your ISP you have to use the custom router login details. Check the label on your router and you will find these admin login details.
Default IP address: 192.168.1.1
Default username: admin
Default password: Check the label on your router and look for a string of random characters written in the User/Password section.
How To Login To Calix Router?
If you have prepared everything, the following steps will be very simple and straightforward.
STEP 1 – Connect The Device
We have to point out the importance of connecting your device to the network over WiFi or the network cable. If the device isn’t connected you won’t be able to login to your Calix router.
The wired connection is preferable because of its stability, but if you are using a laptop, tablet or a smartphone you can also login over WiFi. But you need to know that you can be logged off or disconnected from the network when you change and save some router settings. When using a wired connection this won’t happen.
STEP 2 – Launch A Web Browser
The Calix router web-based interface is easily accessible over a web browser. Therefore, launch the browser you normally use. Just make it up-to-date if you run into any problems.
STEP 3 – Type The Calix IP In The URL Bar
Now, enter the Calix router IP address 192.168.1.1 in the browser’s URL bar and press Enter on your keyboard or tap Go on your smartphone/tablet’s screen.
Every router manufacturer sets up a default IP address that makes the router management easier. Sometimes they make routers for specific ISPs and they set different login details. However, these can be found on the label on the router.
STEP 4 – Enter The Calix Default Username and Password
Now you should be asked to enter the Calix router admin username and password.
We have already mentioned that the default username is admin, and the admin password should be printed on the router label.
Enter these and press Login and you should be redirected to the Calix router admin panel.
STEP 5 – Modify Your Calix Router Settings
Now you should see and explore the Calix router settings. Some basic changes like setting up a new SSID (Network name) and wireless password will increase your network security. There are some other security options you can modify as well. But since you are logged into the Calix admin dashboard now let’s see how to change the network name and password.
NOTE: After you change the wireless settings for your 2.4 GHz Network, make sure to do the same for your 5 GHz Network. Make sure to set up different network names.
How To Change The WiFi Name On Calix Router?
When you access the Calix router admin dashboard click on Wireless in the top menu.
A new menu will appear on the left, click on 2.4G Network and then SSID Setup.
When the new page opens, you will see the current SSID and at the bottom the field saying Rename SSID.
Here you can enter your new network name. Choose whatever you want but make sure not to discover the type of router you are using or anything too personal.
Click the Apply button to save the changes.
How To Change The Wireless Password On Calix Router?
The wireless password on your Calix router can be changed in the same Wireless section. Click on it and then select the 2.4G network. Click on Security.
Select the correct Network name in the SSID Network Name field.
Set the Security Type to WPA2-Personal.
Encryption Type to AES.
Click on the Use Custom Security Key radio-button and enter the new wireless password.
Click the Apply button to save the new wireless password.
Don’t forget to reconnect your wireless devices (TVs, smartphones, tablets etc.) to the new network name using the new wireless password.
Now you should know how to login to your Calix wireless router. The next time you want to do that we are pretty sure you won’t need any help. Also, make sure not to change any advanced settings you are not familiar with. That may make your home network unstable.
To avoid that we recommend backing up the current router configuration or if you forget to do that, you can reset your router to factory defaults. You will need to reconfigure the router and set up the network again, but don’t do that if you don’t know the default admin login details and the connection details from your ISP.
Hey, I’m David. I’ve been working as a wireless network engineer and a network administrator for 15 years. During my studies, I also worked as an ISP field technician – that’s when I met Jeremy.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in network engineering and a master’s degree in computer science and engineering. I’m also a Cisco-certified service provider.
In my professional career, I worked for router/modem manufacturers and internet providers. I like to think that I’m good at explaining network-related issues in simple terms. That’s exactly what I’m doing on this website – I’m making simple and easy-to-follow guides on how to install, set up, and troubleshoot your networking hardware. I also review new network equipment – modems, gateways, switches, routers, extenders, mesh systems, cables, etc.
My goal is to help regular users with their everyday network issues, educate them, and make them less scared of their equipment. In my articles, you can find tips on what to look for when buying new networking hardware, and how to adjust your network settings to get the most out of your wi-fi.
Since my work is closely related to computers, servers, and other network equipment, I like to spend most of my spare time outdoors. When I want to blow off some steam, I like to ride my bike. I also love hiking and swimming. When I need to calm down and clear my mind, my go-to activity is fishing.
