Learn how to login to your Sagemcom wireless router and how to configure it properly.
What do you need:
- A Sagemcom router (in this case we have used Sagemcom F@st 5260 as an example)
- Network connection
- Ethernet cable
Note: Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) may require you to login to their web portal to enable your Internet connection. In case you need more info, contact your ISP.
How to Login to Sagemcom router
1. Connect to your network
Connect the device you want to use to login to your router to the home network either via an Ethernet cable or via your wireless connection. Generally, a device (PC, smartphone or tablet) which is not part of the network can’t be used to access the router settings or the so called Web GUI. This is important and you wouldn’t like to miss this step.
2. Go to 192.168.1.1 using your web browser
The router’s Web GUI can be accessed using the web browser you normally use. All you have to do is to type the Sagemcom router login IP in the URL bar.
Sagemcom uses 192.168.1.1 as a default router IP or click on the button below.
3. Type the router login details in the new window
If the IP you have just typed is correct you will be asked to enter the Sagemcom login details. These can be found at the back of your router and it is recommended to change them later.
The default Sagemcom router login details are:
Click LOGIN after you type these details.
Now you will see the Sagemcom router settings page.
About the Sagemcom settings page
The Sagemcom router settings page is the place where you can change various router settings which can directly improve the security of our home network, plus a few additional advanced tweaks which are of no interest to the everyday user.
However, since we are all concerned about our security, as well as the security of our personal files and data, it is important to take some steps to secure our wireless network.
How to secure your Sagemcom Router
Changing the Sagemcom router login username and password
First of all the router login username and password are not the same thing as the wireless username and password. The first provides access to the router settings and the other provides access to your wireless internet connection.
The router login details shouldn’t be shared with other people since they can easily modify your router settings or disable your internet connection.
1. Log in to the router setting page.
2. Click on the Access Control icon.
3. Select USER in the top menu.
4. Type admin in the Username field in case it isn’t already written there.
5. Tick the Show Password box.
6. Type your old password in the Old Password field.
7. In the Password field type your new password.
8. Type the new password again in the Confirm Password field.
9. Click Apply.
How to configure (secure) your Wi-Fi network
Basically, some of the steps described in this section play an important role in the security of your wireless network so make sure not to skip them. We will mark them red.
Once you login to your Sagemcom router you will see two buttons in the middle of the screen: WiFi 2.4GHz and WiFi 5GHz. By default they are both active so you cn choose whether you want to use both of them or just one. To enable or disable them you will have to click on the network of your choice, click on Basic and there you can switch ON or OFF the network.
If you choose to leave it ON continue with the next step. Please note that the configuration of the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks is similar.
How to change the Wireless SSID (Network Name)
The network name is visible to any device in range. Leaving it to its default value represents a security risk since the person who want to connect can see the router you are using and can easily find the default wireless password which will grant him access to the network and the router settings as well.
1. Login to your Sagemcom router as described before.
2. Click on the network you want to configure (2.4GHz or 5GHz).
3. Click on the BASIC tab, and in the Basic section you will see SSID and your current network name in the field.
4. Type your new network name and tick the Visible box.
It is recommended to keep the SSID visible because it will be much easier for you to detect your network in the future. Hiding it may just give you headache the next time you want to connect a new device to the network.
5. Click on Apply.
How to change the Sagemcom Router Wi-Fi channel
Since there are other devices and Wi-Fi networks which can cause interference it si wise to change your Wi-Fi channel. Settings the channel to Auto will let the router choose the best channel. On the other hand if you want your router to work on a different channel you can select it on your own.
1. Login to the router
2. Select the network you want to modify
3. Click on the BASIC tab and go to the Basic section.
4. Scroll down to Channel Selection and set it to Auto or choose the channel you want to use.
5. Click on Apply to save the changes.
How to change your network password and encryption
In order to connect to your wireless network you need to know the SSID (Network name) and the wireless password. We have already discussed how to change the SSID. Now let’s see how to change the default wireless password.
1 Login to the Sagemcom router.
2. Choose the network you want to modify – 2.4GHz or 5GHz.
3. Select the BASIC tab in the top menu.
4. Scroll down to the Security section.
5. In the Security drop-down list select WPA2 Personal.
6. In the Password field type the new wireless password. Make sure to type a strong and memorable password.
7. Click Apply to save the changes.
If you have followed our Sagemcom router login instructions you have probably completed all the other steps and measures we have described. These are just the basic security and configuration changes you have to do.
In case you want to dig deeper you can also set up a Guest network which is quite useful if you want to keep your primary wireless network secure. Then you can go through the Parental controls and limit and control how much time your children are spending online. You can also block some specific web sites so they can’t be accessed from your network, share printers and storage devices and the list goes on.
