It\u2019s absolutely frustrating when we get a problem after somebody tells us that a reset fixes almost everything. Well, imagine having no internet after resetting your modem. Certainly, this happened many times, and that\u2019s the reason this post exists.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

If you still don\u2019t have internet access<\/a> after a reset, then there might be something you can do to fix it. So, this article reviews why there\u2019s no internet after resetting a modem, how to fix it, and how to set up your modem properly.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Still No Internet After Modem Reset<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The usual suspects behind your modem not providing internet access<\/a> are a broken modem or a bad configuration. Still, it can be a problem with the device you\u2019re using. Maybe your network card doesn\u2019t work.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The network adapter configuration might be wrong. Check if there\u2019s any damage to the ethernet cable<\/a> if you\u2019re using one. Finally, it might be something regarding your ISP, meaning that there\u2019s simply no internet at the moment.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

If your modem is brand new, and you know that there\u2019s internet in your neighborhood because your neighbors are using the same provider as you are, then let\u2019s discuss a couple of ways you can fix \u201cno internet access<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

How to Fix No Internet Access?<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Lucky for us, the \u201cno internet after resetting modem\u201d issue occurred many times, and there are a few ways we can fix it. We can use the automatic troubleshooter, we can check for a firmware update, we can renew the IP address, unblock the MAC address, or reset the TCP\/IP.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Troubleshooting with Windows<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

If you\u2019re seeing a connection in the bottom right corner, but when you hover your cursor over it, it says \u201cno internet access\u201d, then the simplest yet very efficient thing to do is open the automatic troubleshooter.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Right-click<\/strong> on the connection and select Troubleshoot Problems<\/strong>. This will automatically check for any issues with your laptop\u2019s network adapter. It\u2019s going to reset it, and it\u2019s probably going to fix the issue with internet access.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

There\u2019s usually a problem with our wireless adapter or access point<\/strong>, and this gets fixed when the troubleshooter resets and tests everything to see if it\u2019s working properly. However, it\u2019s also good to check the firmware of the modem.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Firmware update<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

A firmware update might both cause the problem and be the way you fix it. It can cause a problem because some modems might need a factory reset for the update to work. This is one of the most common tech problems<\/a>. The firmware might need a clean install.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

If you need to install the update manually, connect to your modem via Ethernet cable, and go to the settings page<\/strong> of your modem. Use another connection to download the latest update, and then navigate to the firmware version. It\u2019s usually the section Upgrade Firmware<\/a><\/strong> or Firmware Upgrade<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Once there, you can see a section that says \u201cFirmware File Path<\/strong>\u201d or something similar depending on the model of the modem. Click on Browse\u2026<\/strong>, find the file and click OK<\/strong>. This should fix the issue regarding firmware.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Renew IP address<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

This is another solution that can fix the issue if it\u2019s related to the device we\u2019re using. So, if you\u2019re using a Windows laptop<\/strong>, go to the Command prompt. Simply click on the Search box<\/strong> and type \u201crun<\/strong>\u201d, hit Enter<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

A black window labeled Command Prompt<\/strong> pops up, and the next thing we need to do is type ipconfig \/release <\/strong>into the command prompt window. When you hit Enter<\/strong>, your laptop renews the IP address.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

If you\u2019re using a Mac<\/strong>, then you need to click on the Apple menu<\/strong>, go to your System Preferences<\/strong>, and select Network<\/strong>. On the left pane, you can see the network services. You need to select the one whose IP address you want to renew.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Click on Advanced<\/strong>, find TCP\/IP, click on it, and you can click on Renew DHCP Lease<\/strong>. This should solve the no internet access issue.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

MAC address blocked<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Now, this happens rarely, but sometimes the modem automatically prevents your MAC address<\/strong> from having internet access. Also, someone might have purposefully blocked your MAC address<\/a> on the modem. Perhaps a family member or a roommate.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Fortunately, this issue is quite easy to solve. We simply need to go to the settings page<\/strong> of the modem and turn off MAC filtering<\/strong>. If this doesn\u2019t resolve the issue, and there\u2019s still no internet access, then another type of reset might help.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

TCP\/IP reset<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Resetting the internet protocol on your device fixes multiple issues. It helps with malware issues, it\u2019s necessary if a network driver is not installed correctly, and it\u2019s necessary if there\u2019s an issue with the registry.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

That\u2019s why it might fix the issue. Go to the search box, type in \u201ccommand prompt<\/strong>\u201d, right-click on the first result that appears, and select \u201cRun as administrator<\/strong>.\u201d Next, you need to type netsh winsock reset <\/strong>and hit Enter<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

This will recover your laptop\u2019s internet connectivity configuration. The next thing that you can do is type in netsh int ip reset<\/strong> and hit Enter<\/strong>. This returns the laptop\u2019s internet protocol back to its default configuration.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Sometimes, we just need to set up the modem properly. Remember, once you do a reset, you erase all the custom settings you had. Now, set up the modem from zero.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Modem Set Up<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Most troubleshooting cases exist because we don\u2019t set our hardware up properly. When setting up a modem, it\u2019s very important to follow the instructions handed to you by your ISP. If you don\u2019t have the instructions handy, you can follow these simple steps.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Remember, it doesn\u2019t matter that you\u2019re not installing your modem for the first time. You can follow these steps to help solve the issue that you\u2019re currently having. So, the first thing you need to do is connect the modem<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Depending on the type of internet connection, DSL or cable, you\u2019ll have different jacks you want to plug your cables into. The phone cable<\/strong> goes into the DSL port<\/strong> while the coax cable<\/strong> goes into the cable jack<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Connect the modem to the outlet. It has the corresponding jack. Once you finish these steps, you can power your modem on<\/strong>. This should have everything working properly, and it\u2019s a very straightforward solution.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

If you still have no internet after resetting the modem, it means that something\u2019s either wrong with your network adapter, your ISP, or your current configuration. It doesn\u2019t hurt to set everything up from scratch.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
